New Growth

Hello all,

This is Anthony with a mid-week update. I just wanted to share that we used some ingredients from the garden in a great meal last night. We made salmon and quinoa, using broccoli rab, chives, lettuce sprouts, and cilantro straight from the garden.

Everything is growing right along with this amazing weather. I've noticed flowers on our broccoli (that has survived from last year) blueberries (see photo) and even on our strawberries! Strawberries don't usually come in until June or July, so this was quite a surprise.

Speaking of growth, we are always looking to grow our numbers of volunteers, so if you have not yet made your Earth Day Resolutions (it's coming up on April 22nd) then why don't you commit to help us with a garden clean-up? Stay posted for more details!

Thanks,
Anthony

New Fence for a New Season

Welcome to another exciting year of urban agriculture! This is Anthony with the update. We are well into year three of Peace Garden Pgh and we are already off to a great start.

First, we put up the new fence with some local help. The combination of warm weather in March and the overall mild winter has brought out the garden spirit in us, as well as the plants. The morning glories are already peaking out of the soil and reaching for the new fence. We even have some broccoli and kohlrabi that weathered the winter!

Next, we are putting together the plans for the new season. Here is a taste of what is in store:

- Garden Clean-up (in April)
- Garden Party Kick-off (in May)
- Saturday's in the Garden (May to November)
- Garden Fitness
- Cooking Classes

And more!

So please stay tuned, check in often, and get your garden shoes on.

Spring!

Hey Everyone,

I spent the day at Schwartz Market promoting Peace Garden today! Schwartz Market is undergoing a transformation and they want community input as part of it. I met all sorts of neighbors and told them about PGP and asked them to get involved with gardening this summer. Anthony put some onions in the ground last week -- so it is about that time!! Stay tuned -- we will be planning a big spring clean up for the garden, and then a first planting day after that.

See you soon!

Start Your Own Plant

Hey everyone,

If you stop by the kick off event tomorrow, we will give you seeds to start your own plant, and a very cool recycled container to take home with you. Once the plant gets big, you can bring it back to the garden to plant in the ground so that it can flourish. We'll have an assortment of vegetable and flower seeds. So make sure you stop by 1105 Bingham Street between 4-8pm tomorrow!
